KARL HAB: 24H LOS ANGELES 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

HVW8 GALLERY PRESENTS
KARL HAB: 24H LOS ANGELES 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
WITH SUPPORT FROM ADIDAS ORIGINALS

HVW8 Gallery presents 24H Los Angeles 10 Year Anniversary, a special exhibition and book release by Karl Hab, marking ten years since the original project that captured Los Angeles across a full 24 hour cycle.

Originally published in 2016, 24H Los Angeles became a defining visual study of the city, tracing its rhythm from sunrise to night. Built around a continuous 24 hour structure, each photograph is timestamped and geolocated, creating a real-time portrait of Los Angeles through light, movement, and atmosphere.

Ten years later, Karl Hab returns with a new edition featuring previously unseen images and new perspectives gathered over a decade of shooting the city from street level to the sky. The work moves from early morning arrivals at LAX through the shifting geometry of downtown, into golden hour across the hills, and late night along the coast.

This anniversary edition also includes contributions from key voices across the Los Angeles creative community, including Alex Israel, Dr Woo, Shaniqwa Jarvis, Chris Gibbs, Kirsty Godso, and Fred North, expanding the project into a broader reflection on the city and its culture.

At HVW8 Gallery, the exhibition translates the 24 hour structure into an immersive environment, bringing together photography, installation, and sound to mirror the energy and pace of Los Angeles.

Artist Prints Supporting Those Affected by the Fires

We Love You, Los Angeles

Artist Prints Supporting Those Affected by the Fires

For nearly 20 years, this city has been our gallery’s home. It deeply saddens us to see the recent tragedies affecting our beautiful community.

To help those impacted by the fires, three photographers we work with—Los Angeles-based Glenjamn and Stephen Vanasco, along with Paris-based Karl Hab—have generously donated images for a special print run. These prints reflect Los Angeles’ profound connection to nature and its delicate balance.

Proceeds from these prints, available online and at the gallery, will go directly to support those in need.

Here is the Donation List. Contributions can also be made directly to those on this list. For further information, please email info@hvw8.com.

This weekend, our gallery will be open on Saturday and Sunday, from 1–6 PM, as a space for rest, reflection and connection. Live music and beverages will be provided, and our DJ decks will be open for sharing and gathering.

Take care of yourselves and one another.
Everyone is welcome.

With gratitude,
HVW8 Gallery

Karl Hab – Basketball Aerial Shots of LA

Young Parisian photographer Karl Hab has long had an obsession with Los Angeles and aerial photography. His first book, Window Seat Please, was a dreamy zine shot entirely out of the window of planes crossing the Atlantic, then his second book, 24H Los Angeles was a more literal exploration of LA.

In his latest project, Karl has shot LA’s most colourful, graphic basketball courts from a two-seater helicopter. “It was a project in a project,” he says of the three-year project. “When I was shooting pictures for 24h Los Angeles I found these nuggets, so I decided to shoot more courts last summer while I was in LA.”

Opening and Book Signing: April 20 2016, 7-10 pm
Exhibition Runs: April 21 – May 8th, 2016
Location: HVW8 Gallery, Los Angeles

24 hours Los Angeles is not a book and exhibition about the city of L.A. It’s a unique vision of one city shown through the eyes of young photographer Karl Hab. After many trips to L.A., Karl wanted to share his love and admiration for this town and what it means to him. During those various experienc- es in the City of Angels, he tried to capture a certain essence of this city from a different point of view, especially using aerial shots.

There is a special feeling when you come to L.A. and it starts when you exit the airport. It’s something so special that it’s hard to explain with words, especially when it comes to the beauty and the buzz of this city – which is why Karl used his lens to express himself.

The photos are organized by chronological order – starting with the beginning of the day and its cold tones to its end with the warm ones – showing the city through many angles and many shades.

The book and exhibition is about a single vision, a unique feeling of a city which changes every day. This is why Karl’s photos re ect the sensitivity of the light, the colorimetry of the landscapes and a topic he holds dear: colors, planes, cars, and many more.

After reading and viewing 24 hours Los Angeles, you may see something different in a city you thought you knew so well before.

The introduction of the book is written by the New York based artist Daniel Arsham.

There are no page numbers, but hours corresponding to these times: morning, noon, afternoon and evening. You’ll also find GPS coordinates that represent the captions.
