Jen Stark

Had a chance to stop by the Pulse Art Fair today and visit with Jen Stark at the Show and Tell Gallery booth.

Her work is amazingly detailed layered cut outs from wood and paper, that are labored, intricate and often take over a month to complete. The work puts you into a hypnotic state and have a kaleidoscope effect with moving parts and animation. We were lucky to be introduced to Jen through Alvaro Ilizarbe, her Miami counterpart and companion, at his HVW8 Gallery opening last year.

Here’s small video and photos from today. Thank you Cooper Cole/Show and Tell.

Yves Klien, 808’s & Heartbreak & naked women

Went to a next level listening party of Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak last night. This was a collaboration between Kanye and artist Vanessa Beecroft, produced by Kanye’s creative man, Willo Perron. It started off with everyone being lead from a waiting room to the second level of a parkcade type structure ( the unfinished new Ace Gallery), where the artist had about 40 women standing naked in a heart-shaped formation. There was a large, diffused lighting screen behind the women that would change in synch with Kanye’s new album tracks. Pretty cool! It was kind of a surreal environment to be watching/listening to this while hip hop celebrities (jay-z, mos, rick ross) and curators (getty) intermingled ….. kind of on a Warhol factory type vibe. Wasn’t a place to take photos (I’m sure they will be online soon) but did kind of remind me of an Yves Klein “happening” from the late 60’s.
