Time to change!

It’s been a really hectic couple weeks with the election and the Nu America party. People ask why I’m I so supportive about Obama when I’m a Canadian and can’t even vote in the U.S. Well the short answer — it’s pretty amazing! Since I have lived in the U.S., people living outside the U.S. would always criticize America and its politics. It was deserved, but at the same time the Bush administration and his policies didn’t represent the America I know and live. Now you have Obama — and only in America could you have such a amazing almost instant transformation stemming from a individual with such massive ramifications. I feel that America is “Good” again, and with everything that has been happening with the world economy and events, it demonstrates how inter-connected the world is. What is good for here is good for the world. Go bama!

election night at ours.

Yves Klien, 808’s & Heartbreak & naked women

Went to a next level listening party of Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak last night. This was a collaboration between Kanye and artist Vanessa Beecroft, produced by Kanye’s creative man, Willo Perron. It started off with everyone being lead from a waiting room to the second level of a parkcade type structure ( the unfinished new Ace Gallery), where the artist had about 40 women standing naked in a heart-shaped formation. There was a large, diffused lighting screen behind the women that would change in synch with Kanye’s new album tracks. Pretty cool! It was kind of a surreal environment to be watching/listening to this while hip hop celebrities (jay-z, mos, rick ross) and curators (getty) intermingled ….. kind of on a Warhol factory type vibe. Wasn’t a place to take photos (I’m sure they will be online soon) but did kind of remind me of an Yves Klein “happening” from the late 60’s.

Slept on Artist Series

Eugene R. Coles is a poet and artist born NYC and based in Baltimore. Best known for some of his album artwork, like Gil Scott-Heron/Brian Jackson’s 1973 epic ‘Winter In America”, he has continued painting over the past 30 years.  His materials range from oil paints on canvas to white pencil on black paper creating abstract paintings and collages.

Strategic Synchronicity – Futura

Checked out futura’s opening last night at the pop up Mad Krunk space in Downtown Los Angeles. The paintings looked amazing – I believe created right on site or at the framers and most of the pieces sold (30 – 75k).

A la Damian Hirst’s recent pop up – the show is open for 3 days.

Kim and the Next Pres.

Kimmers got to go to a fundraiser with Obama in LA last night. Some candid pics of her and her mom with hopefully the next pres.

New Bloggin – Raymond Pettibon

Went to the Raymond Pettibon exhibition with Kimbers this Saturday  …. the art was amazing, and I’m a huge fan, but the gallery staff was kind of jerks, so I took these photos from LAist (Elise Thompson) ….. had to include the hairless pig dog.

Photo by Jules of me getting burnt in the pool in Vegas.

Cognac Thieves …..

Denver and Vegas

A slow post week because of the Art Bizarre in Vegas and of the Manifest Hope in Denver, but tomorrow will start posting new images from the events.

Howard Bingham – Rumble in the Jungle

Please join M+B on Saturday, April 19 from 7 to 9 pm for the opening reception of HOWARD L. BINGHAM: THE RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE at 612 N. Almont Drive in West Hollywood.

Poignant, knowing, rich with insights and tributes, THE RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE chronicles Muhammad Ali’s legendary trip of 1974 to Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) to fight a heavily favored George Foreman in the first world heavyweight boxing championship held on the African continent. Ali’s reclamation of the heavyweight title in the fierce and dramatic match stunned critics and sparked joy throughout the world. While the match serves as thematic nucleus, Bingham’s photography covers Ali’s entire eight-week stay, recounting the event in all its dimensions, including a star-studded musical festival, buzzing paparazzi and impinging politics. HOWARD L. BINGHAM: THE RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE includes over 60 color and black and white photographs and runs from April 19 – May 31, 2008.

We look forward to seeing you there.
