HVW8 Sound System feat. Computer Jay – Bump rendered
Painter Robert Colescott was the first black American to represent the United States in the Venice Bienalle. He died at age 83. Known for reworking European and American masterpieces, his paintings were full of humor and his colorful style.

HVW8 Sound system makes its debut June. 30th
HVW8’s Gene Starship, with Tyler Gibney and Brian Armstong, were responsible for the And 1 mixtape illustrations for the first 5 tapes (1999-2002) The HVW8 Art Installation also went on the tour with the ballers to N. Philly, Chicago South Side, Rucker’s in Harlem and Venice, California, and painted pieces under the net during the games. Some wild times. The first player that we did a lot of artwork for was Rafer “Skip to My Lou” Alston. He even picked up a piece for his place. Good to see Skip to My Lou now in the NBA finals 10 yrs later.

Aubrey Hart, from LA’s Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, does an impromptu performance at the HVW8 Gallery. Aubrey was known to collaborate with Horace Tapscott.
After the last post thought I’d sneak a few photos of Sister Corita’s prints from the amazing collection at Immaculate Heart College Art Department. All religion isn’t bad. Prints circa 1968.
These are the actual graphic layouts that Donald Rumsfeld would supply George Bush on his daily briefings before America’s crusade to war in Iraq. Crazy!

Art + Design Gallery and the Parra exhibition get some lovin’ in Japan’s Warp mag.
People inquire a lot about one of our most infamous pieces; the Roy Ayers Wax Poetics cover piece from 2004. Here is the story –
The Roy Ayers painting by HVW8 Art Installation was created in Montreal during a live set with Afronaught and Mark Force, from the Bugz in the Attic, during the Goods. I brought back the original painting to Los Angeles from Montreal and gave it to Andre Torres at Funky Sole at Star Shoes for the Wax Poetics cover. Andre took the piece back to Brooklyn. This was the last time I saw it.
A few weeks passed and I asked when we were going to get the piece back. Andre said he had already Fed-Ex’d the painting back to Huntington Beach, where HVW8 had an office within Giant distribution, but didn’t have a tracking number. Fast foward 6 months, Andre finds the tracking number and we find out that the painting was received at Giant distribution and signed for by an employee who was fired that day. This employee then left back to Mexico. Sad thing this piece was never properly documented.
So best bet the HVW8’s Roy Ayers is currently in Tijuana area.
