HVW8 Gallery is proud to present Outtakes & Icons: Four Decades, an exhibition and book release by acclaimed Los Angeles photographer Mike Miller.

A third-generation Angeleno, Miller helped define the visual identity of West Coast hip-hop in the 1990s. His raw, unfiltered imagery shaped the global perception of a movement that continues to influence music, fashion, and contemporary culture.

Following his sold-out 2012 publication West Coast Hip-Hop: A History in Pictures, Miller returns with Outtakes & Icons, featuring a foreword by Public Enemy’s Chuck D. The book reveals never-before-seen photographs spanning four decades – including Tupac Shakur, Eazy-E, A$AP Rocky, Doja Cat, 21 Savage, Deftones, Nick Cave, Herb Alpert, Stan Getz, Jeremy Allen White, and rare outtakes from Stüssy’s first streetwear campaign in 1990.

Original contact sheets are reproduced throughout, offering insight into Miller’s process and documenting the intersections of hip-hop, fashion, and Los Angeles identity.

Miller’s work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the American Museum of Natural History (New York), Fotografiska (New York, Stockholm, Berlin), MoPOP (Seattle), ICP Museum (New York), and the Annenberg Museum. His photographs are held in permanent collections at the Smithsonian, the Getty Museum, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the New York Public Library, and the Oakland Museum of California.

Outtakes & Icons further cements Mike Miller’s legacy as one of Los Angeles’ most influential visual storytellers.

Join us February 21, 6–10PM at HVW8 Gallery to celebrate the exhibition and book launch.
