HVW8 Gallery and adidas Originals present Creative Class, a pop-up exhibition that celebrates diversity in artistic expression with five artists working across a spectrum of mediums. A series of performances, interactive workshops, and artist talks will accompany the show.
The exhibition and related programming will take place at the National YoungArts Foundation’s (YoungArts) historic Jewel Box during Miami Art Week featuring:
Real — Safe is a multi-medium collection of installation works by Los Angeles based artist Kilo Kish. Through film, performance, and immersive soundscapes Kish aims to create the fabricated nature of our online interactions in real life. The installation explores the poles of reality, which she has deemed hyper-reality, perceived reality, and actuality. Her performance confronts our need for personal space in public and freedom online. Through strategic musical composition and timing, she tests comfortable and uncomfortable forms of attention in public.
Brian Lotti will exhibit Recent Studies, new paintings on paper that chronicle his recent travels and continued interest in figures set within particular landscapes. The work demonstrates Lotti’s primary interest in color, both observed and imagined. Works employ broken colors and impressionistic brushstrokes, and often depict groups of people or individuals pursuing activities or travelling through a given setting. Viewed as a group, the series suggests a larger story about color, texture, and the variegated nature of modern experience.
Atiba Jefferson, a Los Angeles based photographer internationally known for his sports, music, lifestyle, and skateboarding photography, will present Heart Shaped Box, an interactive installation of his photographs.
Paris based painter Inès Longevial will exhibit select works from Sous Le Soleil, her first solo exhibition in the U.S. The artist conveys a strong and complex vision of femininity across her paintings, using small brush strokes and distortion techniques to emphasize forms of flesh that are often forgotten, such as fingertips and cheekbones, to show that femininity can be unique.
Lisa Leone will show a new installation from her photo archive, with a focus on the final period before hip-hop’s mainstream cultural influence and global expansion; presenting both a documentation and personal exploration of the grit, audacity and raw creative spirit that has become the aesthetic of 80’s and 90’s hip-hop, its innovators, and the often harsh realism that fueled it. Lisa is also Vice President of Artistic Programs at YoungArts, our host organization that supports emerging artists across 10 disciplines at critical junctures in their careers. Her participation in Creative Class as an artist and her role as an arts leader champions the level of artistic diversity inherent to this exhibition.
All five participating artists had their first solo exhibition with HVW8 Gallery made possible with the support of adidas Originals. Creative Class continues a long standing partnership between HVW8 and adidas to foster the growth of emerging artists from diverse backgrounds.

KILO KISH
Kish Robinson has been making genre-bending, experimental music projects under the moniker Kilo Kish since 2012. Starting rst as a student of design at Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, Kish has been heralded for her cross- medium approach as an artist. In July 2017, Kish exhibited her first solo art installation at HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles, combining performance, film, and sound. Her work has been reviewed by the New York Times, The New Yorker, Time Magazine, Vogue, W, Fader, and The Village Voice. Kish released her debut full length LP “Re ections in Real Time (RRT)” in 2016 through her own label, kisha soundscape + audio (ksa). She is currently living and working in Los Angeles, CA.
BRIAN LOTTI
New York based painter Brian Lotti uses varied washes of vibrant color, quick staccatos and heavy impasto strokes to create urban landscapes that capture the spontaneity of light and movement in his immediate environment. Lotti’s affinity for the urban landscape began as a professional skateboarder and filmmaker. His colorful works celebrate the commonplace alleys, streets, and scenes with which he has been so intimately familiar. Brian graduated with a BA in Art from San Francisco State University in 1998 and moved to Northern California where he practiced landscape and portrait painting for several years. In 2004 Brian moved to Southern California to direct two motion pictures about skateboarding, then returned to his painting practice. Brian currently spends his time working in and around his home neighborhood of Boerum Hill in Brooklyn, NY.
ATIBA JEFFERSON
Atiba Jefferson is an American photographer living and working in Los Angeles, CA. Although perhaps best known for his skateboarding photography, Atiba has a deep history in basketball as well, being a staff photographer for the LA Lakers during the Shaq and Kobe years and shooting more SLAM magazine covers than any other photographer. Other subjects include music and just life in general. HVW8 Gallery produced his first solo photography exhibitions in N. America (Sorry For Not Showing Art, HVW8 Los Angeles 2013) and in Europe (So Long, Lonesome, HVW8 Berlin 2015). Currently a sta photographer for Thrasher Magazine, Atiba has also shot for commercial clients such as adidas, ESPN, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Oakley, Panasonic, Pepsi and Supreme.
LISA LEONE
Bronx born Lisa Leone began her career as a photographer shooting musicians such as D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill and Maxwell, as well as personalities like Debi Mazar and Spike Lee. She worked for British Vogue and VIBE where she was a contributing photographer and columnist. A few years later, Lisa began work on Stanley Kubrick’s last film Eyes Wide Shut, where Kubrick became her mentor. Leone’s work has been shown in exhibitions at HVW8 Art + Design Gallery in Los Angeles (May 2012), which travelled to the Galleria Patricia Armocida, Milan, and The Andenken Gallery, Amsterdam. In 2014, her solo exhibition, Here I Am, opened at the Bronx Museum of the Arts and was accompanied with a book of the same title, published by Minor Matters Books. Additionally, she has exhibited in Dubai at Dubai Design District,in Berlin with a solo show, and in Los Angeles at the Leica Gallery. Last fall her works were exhibited at Gallery 212 and her photos will be on view at the new National Museum of African American History and Culture – Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Lisa is Vice President of Artistic Programs at the National YoungArts Foundation.
INÈS LONGEVIAL
Inès Longevial is a painter and illustrator working in Paris. She started drawing and painting at a very young age, and studied at an Applied Arts high school before obtaining her Diploma in Applied Arts. Her paintings in oil, simultaneously tender and strong, concentrate on two principal themes: femininity and nature. Using parts of the body, face, and skin color, her art developed a novel and sensual body image in which women can be round and their skin can be different shades and colors. Inès’ childhood, spent “in the little house in the prairie” as she says, always feeds her work in which oral elements together with numerous nuances of color nd their way to her canvases. In addition to working with brands such as Levi’s and Sezane ou Amelie Pichard, her work garnered widespread attention after being featured on @instagram.
HVW8 Art + Design Gallery was founded in 2006 in Los Angeles by Tyler Gibney and Addison Liu with a focus on supporting ne art & avant-garde graphic design. By furthering artistic visions at the intersection of art, music and design, it soon became one of the premier underground galleries in Los Angeles. Emerging and established artists such as Parra, Geoff McFetridge, Kevin Lyons, Hassan Rahim, Mark Gonzales, Cody Hudson, Lisa Leone, Janette Beckman, and Jean André have exhibited their works with the gallery. In 2014 HVW8 Gallery expanded with a location in Berlin, Germany.
