EINHUNDERT VERSCHWENDETE JAHRE / ONE HUNDRED WASTED YEARS – Los Angeles
June 10th – June 19th, 2022
Einhundert verschwendete Jahre (One hundred wasted years) is a group exhibition curated by Berlin-based collective EINHUNDERT (Flo Hettenbach & Nico Adomako). Being frequently asked over the years what EINHUNDERT is and does, the exhibition explores these questions by showcasing the collective’s influences, core ideas and background. This is done with the help of an international group of artists to account for the fundamental platform nature of the EINHUNDERT project. All artists have actively or passively shaped EINHUNDERT, providing reference points, advice and inspiration. While each artist has their distinct voice and perspective, it is this transnational plurality that best explains the purpose of EINHUNDERT over the past verschwendete Jahre (“wasted years”) since its inception. The title is a homage to another collective but also to years of unpaid labor of numerous individuals to make each project come to life – “wasted years” according to neoliberal logic.
Einhundert verschwendete Jahre is Sly Morikawa / AUS, Marta Espinosa / ES & JP, K. T. Kobel / UK & NL, Kyla Callista / ID, Marie-Line Vinciguerra / FR, Monilola Olayemi Ilupeju / NG, US & GER, Alice Z Jones / UK & GER, DisFig / US & GER, Nico Adomako / GH & GER, Flo Hettenbach / GER.
Opening June 10th, 06:00 – 10:00 pm

About EINHUNDERT
EINHUNDERT is a question of identity and belonging, continuously reproduced and explored through a series of mixed media projects, centered around club music, video art, photography and street fashion. As a transdisciplinary, multi-ethnic German collective, EINHUNDERT is constantly developing and deconstructing ideas of identity and belonging in the context of localities and inner-city culture. Working exclusively outside of traditional cultural institutions, the collective formulates a unique Diaspora-German/European perspective on European identity, global-local dynamics and cultural hegemony.
Combining a vast collection of experiences and perspectives, EINHUNDERT aims to connect and develop a platform for other under-represented young voices to establish their own lanes. With club music being the back-bone and origin of the collective, the main focus is cultivating a post-genre approach to music, transcending and challenging mainstream ideas of what contemporary Berlin club culture is, by whom and for whom.
